Beyond new developments, Amazon is also working to preserve existing nuclear reactors. The company previously agreed to co-locate a data center facility next to Talen Energy’s nuclear facility in Pennsylvania. This arrangement will directly power Amazon’s data centers with carbon-free energy and help maintain the operation of that reactor.

Community and Economic Impact

These nuclear energy investments are anticipated to provide significant economic benefits to local communities. The Energy Northwest project, for instance, is expected to create up to 1,000 temporary construction jobs and over 100 permanent positions. Similarly, the data center campus in Pennsylvania will generate construction jobs and infrastructure upgrades, while also preserving approximately 900 existing local jobs at the Talen Energy facility.
